A chimney deteriorates from the outside in through weather and from the inside out through creosote and animals, and neither shows from the living room. The inspection is how you find out before the fire does.

The National Fire Protection Association standard for chimneys, NFPA 211, calls for an annual inspection whether you burn wood, gas or nothing at all. A Level 1 check covers the accessible parts of the system. A Level 2 adds a camera up the flue and is the standard when a home changes hands, after a chimney fire, or after any change to the appliance.

It has been a year since anyone looked at it

You are buying or selling the house

There was a chimney fire, even a small one

A new insert, stove or gas log set was installed

Smoke, odor or a draft problem you cannot explain

The fireplace has not been used in years and you want to light it again

What’s Included in Our

How Chimney Inspection
Works

Every job begins with a free professional inspection. The final scope depends on the home, the system and what we find.

1

Tell us what you are noticing and whether it is a sale, a fire or the annual check

2

We inspect the firebox, flue, smoke chamber and roof-side components and photograph everything

3

For a Level 2 we run a camera the length of the flue and keep the recording

4

You get written findings the same day; you decide what, if anything, to do next

Frequently Asked
Questions About
Chimney Inspection

What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2?

Level 1 is the annual check of the accessible parts of the chimney. Level 2 adds a camera scan of the flue and a look at the attic and roof side, and is the standard for a home sale, after a chimney fire or after an appliance change.

Is the inspection really free?

Yes. The Level 1 inspection with photos costs nothing and comes with a written price for anything we find. If the chimney is fine, we say so.

Do I need one for a gas fireplace?

Yes. Gas venting clogs with dust and spider webs the way wood flues clog with creosote, and the pilot and burner need a yearly look.

Can you inspect before I close on a house?

Yes, and we know the option period is short. Tell us the deadline and we work around it. The findings come with photos you can attach to a repair request.

How long does it take?

Under an hour for a Level 1, about two hours for a Level 2 with the camera.
