Problems inside a chimney or a vent are not always easy to see. These common signs mean it should be professionally inspected.

It Has Been a Year

NFPA 211 calls for an inspection once a year for any chimney in use, wood or gas.

Smoke Comes Into the Room

A blocked flue, a stuck damper or a missing cap pushes smoke back into the house.

Creosote Glaze on the Walls

The shiny black layer inside the flue is the fuel for chimney fires.

Cracked Crown or Missing Cap

Water gets in, brick spalls and the damper rusts. Small repair now, big one later.

Animals or Debris in the Flue

Nests, leaves and dead birds are common in caps that lost their screen.

Buying or Selling a Home

A Level 2 inspection with a camera is the standard before a sale.

Frequently Asked
Questions About Chimney Services

Do you offer free inspections before service?

Yes. Every service starts with a free professional inspection. We look, photograph what we find and give you a written price before anything is touched.

How often should a chimney be swept?

Inspected every year, swept whenever there is buildup. A fireplace used a few dozen evenings a winter usually needs a sweep every year or two. One that burns most nights needs it every year.

What is creosote and why does it matter?

It is condensed wood smoke: dust first, then flakes, then a hard glaze. The glaze is what chimney fires burn, and it is the reason the sweep exists.

What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2?

Level 1 is the annual check of the accessible parts of the chimney. Level 2 adds a camera scan of the flue and a look at the attic and roof side, and is the standard for a home sale, after a chimney fire or after an appliance change.

Is the inspection really free?

Yes. The Level 1 inspection with photos costs nothing and comes with a written price for anything we find. If the chimney is fine, we say so.

What causes chimney damage in Central Texas?

Water and temperature swings. A hairline crack in the crown lets rain in, and the winter freezes do the rest.

How urgent is a cracked crown?

Seal it before the next winter. A crown repair is one of the cheapest jobs on the chimney and prevents the most expensive ones.
